CLUB HISTORY

For over 30 years, our teams have proudly emerged from the Long Beach Youth Soccer Organization (LBYSO), serving the youth of Long Beach and its surrounding communities. LBYSO, a Cal South recreational program, has grown to include nearly 2,000 boys and girls.

Recognizing a growing need for more competitive play, the LBYSO Board of Directors decided to expand beyond recreational soccer. In 2003, they introduced Cal South’s Signature League program, catering to teams and coaches seeking a higher level of competition without the significant financial, travel, and training demands of traditional club soccer. By 2004, three teams from this program had progressed to a point where they needed to compete at an even higher level. These teams transitioned into the Coast Soccer League, laying the foundation for what is now FC Long Beach. Today, LBYSO supports over 1,400 boys and girls in recreational soccer, 10 teams in the Signature League, and 21 teams in Club Soccer. We take great pride in the growth and evolution of our organization.

In 2006, FC Long Beach appointed Mark Hervin as Technical Director to enhance our teams' training and ensure our coaches deliver top-quality instruction. Mark, who holds a UEFA “B” and USSF "A" coaching license, has played a pivotal role in elevating both our players and coaching staff. Each season, FC Long Beach achieves success by adhering to our core principles and coaching philosophy, which are instilled in our players through our dedicated technical director and coaches. We emphasize player development, particularly in the younger age groups, and remain committed to teaching our teams to play the game with skill and integrity, both in training and in matches.
